Inspiration for your videos can be found everywhere, from classic television commercials to viral internet ads.
If you’ve been on the internet in the last couple of years, there’s a good chance you’ve come across the Harmon brothers. Taking funny commercial videos to new heights, they find ways to inject laughter into everything from awkward social problems to carpet cleaning.
You might also remember the Old Spice “I’m on a horse” ad, or the first ad for the groundbreaking Dollar Shave Club. Both of these companies found ways to make tired old products we take for granted fresh and interesting again — with an extra helping of humor on the side.
The natural world can also provide ample inspiration for your creative ads. Lucidchart’s amusing series of sales videos are brilliant examples of marketing an unrelated product using a nature mockumentary format. You’ll never look at a danger noodle the same way again.

We hope our crash course in funny sales videos has your creative juices flowing. Now it’s time to get creating for your own business. We’ve made it super easy with a step-by-step walkthrough.
From here, you can search through our template library to find a suitable video to start with. All our templates are customizable scene by scene, so don’t worry if you can’t find the exact match for your idea because you’ll be able to change things around later.
Clicking ‘Play’ will preview each video from start to finish. Once you’ve found the one you want to work with, click the blue ‘Edit Video’ button to go into the editing dashboard.
Change as much or as little of each scene as you need to. We’re going to edit the text first, and then change some images to get things how we want them. First — the text.
Using the ‘Your text’ box, simply swap out the existing text and replace it with your own words. You can also change the font by scrolling down to ‘Font’ and make the scene time slightly shorter by clicking on the ‘Timing’ tab above the text box.
When you’re done, hit the green ‘Save and Preview’ button to show you what your new scene will look like. If you’re happy, click ‘Next Scene’ or any scene on the timeline at the bottom.
Swapping out images in each frame is as easy as clicking the X button in the ‘Your Image’ window to delete the existing picture (sorry, pug!) Upload new images from your own computer in PNG, JPG, or GIF format by dragging and dropping them onto the ‘Your Image’ window (you may need to hover over the box for a moment before dropping the image, it sometimes takes a moment to register).
Change any text/font that’s in the scene and then hit ‘Save and Preview’ again to see the result. If you want to change the color, you can do that at any time by clicking on ‘Color’ at the top of the screen, and then come back to the editor by clicking on ‘Timeline’.
You can arrange scenes in any order by dragging them into the right position. To add more scenes, click the green ‘+’ symbol on the timeline.
You’ll be taken to our scenes library, where you can choose from a huge range of extra scenes, or you can upload your own video footage from the ‘Scene Categories’ menu on the left.
You can edit, preview, and add frames as much as you like until your funny sales video reaches maximum funny.
Once you’re happy with your timeline you can move on to the color picking step (if you haven’t done that already) by clicking on ‘Color’ at the top of the dashboard. Then you can go to the ‘Audio’ step and pick a track from our library or upload your own. If you’re planning to use your own audio, make sure you’re not infringing anyone’s copyright, because then you’ll get sued, and that will have low to no funny value.
Ready? Now it’s time to preview your video. Click the ‘Preview’ button in the top menu, then the green ‘Build my Preview’ button.
It may take a few minutes to render, depending on how long the video is (usually about 1 minute per scene), so sit back and enjoy the exceptionally witty copywriting while Biteable gets everything ready for playback.
Hopefully your video is A for Awesome the first time around. If not, simply go back to the timeline, change whatever you like, then build your preview again (if you only made small changes, your preview will be faster to build this time).
When you’re ready to publish your funny sales video, hit the green ‘Publish This Video’ button. If you have a free account you’ll be able to share to social media and your video will have a watermark. You can upgrade your account to Premium to remove the watermark and download the video to your hard drive.
That’s it! You’re all done. Go forth and prosper with the magic of amusing sales videos.
