Recognize the work of the United States’ National Guard.
In 1606, the first militias formed during the British colonization of America. The Massachusetts General Court formed a militia on December 13th 1636, back when Massachusetts was still a British colony. Finally, this statewide militia became known as The National Guard in 1903. Although it serves as part of the US Army, The National Guard is mainly filled by civilian soldiers with regular jobs who serve to protect America.
Today’s an opportunity to give a shout out to the National Guard — after all, they’ve been at it for hundreds of years. Put this template on your social feed and salute the section of the US military that so rarely gets its due.
