Learn about the inspiration of groundhog day with this adorable video.
When someone says groundhog day, you probably think about the classic 1993 Bill Murray film about a man stuck in a time loop, always waking up on the same morning and living out the same day. Groundhog Day in the U.S and Canada is observed on the 2nd of February, and is based on the superstition that groundhogs will emerge from their dens on this day to see if spring has arrived. If the groundhog can see its shadow due to clear weather, it will retreat into its den for another six weeks and wait for spring to arrive. If the groundhog emerges and can’t see its shadow because of cloudiness, that means spring will arrive early.
Encourage your audience to get amongst the groundhog day spirit by learning a bit more about these adorable little rodents. You could even play into the film’s premise by asking people what day they’d like to live out over and over again and encourage them to share their answers in the comments.
