Celebrate Battery Day by asking your audience the last time they used them.
You might not believe it, but the earliest batteries are thousands of years old. In 1936, a team of builders constructing a railway near Bagdhad discovered an ancient tomb. When archeologists were called to the site, they discovered a clay jar containing a cylinder made out of copper that encased an iron rod. This was the first known battery and was claimed by the archeologists to be over 2,000 years old. Then, in 1896, the first commercial battery was made and they’ve become a staple in modern homes everywhere. Torches, watches, remote controls, headphones, game controllers. And we’ve all spent hours rummaging through spare drawers to find that one battery you need.
