Cartoon Video Checklist (What Not To Do)
Make sure your cartoon video doesn't suck with this handy checklist.
If you’re making a Cartoon video with Biteable, there are a number of rookie errors we see people make every day. If you want to make a video that doesn’t suck, there are a number of things to check before you release your precious new video into the wild. We’ve taken notes and present them here as a handy checklist.
- Use commas. Don’t write sentences that run headlong without a pause. If you have no idea how to do this properly, a good rule of thumb is to read the sentence through aloud and wherever there is a natural pause, like this one, PUT IN A COMMA. The rules of comma use are far more complicated than this of course, but if you use this rule, you’ll get it right most of the time.
- Don’t have lines of text with one word on them. When you enter text in the text field, you can hit Enter on your keyboard to shift text onto the next line, so instead of having a block of text like this: Fix the justification so it’s more even, like this:
- Use contrasting colors. Don’t choose colors that are too alike (i.e. dark green and light green) because they will blend in with one another and be too hard to ‘read’ as separate objects. Choose colours that are opposite each other on the colour wheel for full colour contrast.
- Don’t use abbreviations. You’ll look like you’re a giddy 8-year-old if you use abbreviations like ‘u’ instead of ‘you’ and ‘2’ instead of ‘too’. Which is bad even if you are a giddy 8-year-old.
- Check your spelling. Nothing makes you lose credibility faster than bad spelling or grammar, so run your text through a spell check before putting it in the cartoon. http://spellcheckplus.com/ is a good, free, online spelling and grammar checker that isn’t perfect – but it’s better than nothing.
- Lose the internet slang. Something else that’ll have you losing people’s confidence in your credibility and intelligence is using internet slang (lolz, rofl etc.) or emoticons, so cut them from your text unless your aim is for it to look like a pre-teen’s text message.
